Ballad
Taylor Vaira
English IV

"I have fallen in love with you, my caring friend."
"Say you love me too, we will be together 'till the end"
"I admire you young girl of strength,
But my hear is not for you, it belongs to another."

"Why don't you love me, young man of stone?"
"I will be yours you can call me your own."
"I admire you, young woman of courage,
But my heart is not for you, it belongs to another"

"Will you love me now, beautiful woman of my dreams?"
"I have realized now that I love you, I was wrong before it seems."
"I cannot love you,  old man of fear, I'm afraid you have missed your chance."
"I loved you once, but do no longer. My heart is not for you, it belongs to another."

  1. I really like how the tides change in the last stanza. It turns into a tragedy and portrays longing and frustration very well. I don't understand the "old man of fear" line. Why does he turn from "young man of stone" to "old man"?

  2. I used old man to show that a lot of time has passed. I wanted to show that he was afraid to fall in love with his friend. Describing him as an old man of fear shows that he missed his chance, and if he had not been afraid his life may have been different.

  3. I really liked you poem and the way it showed that people who love you once, won't just be there in the end waiting for you. The subject is one that I think everyone can relate to at one point in their life to another. I enjoyed how relatable it was. Nicely done.
