William Shakespeare was a controversial author. Many people believe that he was a fraud, that he used other peoples works, and some even believe he did not exist. However the most interesting controversial aspect of Shakespeare that I found is that many believe the author was on drugs. In sonnet 76, Shakespeare refers to a "noted weed" and in sonnet 27 he speaks of a "journey in his head". Skeptics also had reason to suspect drug use when cannabis residue (marijuana) as well as cocaine was found on a pipe of Williams. Many people feel that Shakespeare was too fantastic of a writer to not be receiving help from some other source. However, Shakespeare was and still is one of the most influential authors of all time, and the fact that he may have done drugs does not change that fact.
